But the coaches aren't the ones the revenue providers (fans) come to watch. How many jerseys do you see with the coach's name and number? It is the indentured servants (players) who generate all those shekels, but changing the system and paying them based on their perceived contribution to the revenue stream would ruin the game, with amateurs becoming professionals, and unhappiness and jealousy between the sports intensified.
With that being said, the coach is the puppetmaster who puts together and trains the group of revenue producers who then generate interest by winning games, trophies, individual awards, and so forth. So, in a pure business sense the coach is probably worth the money being paid.
Finally, what seems to be lost in all of this is the reason students attend college is supposed to be to get an education.
