Being a deterrent to Government tyranny is the ONLY reason the second amendment was written…  Not sure when hunting licenses were first issued or hunting seasons were instituted, but I am pretty sure that the framers of the Constitution had no plans for those restrictions.  As far as self-defense…  The fact that laws have to be passed to say that a castle doctrine exists is beyond me.  Fast forward to Bush 41, and we suddenly have a “legitimate sporting purpose” clause thrown in…  I have still not found that “requirement” in the Second…  And I always thought that target shooting was a sport, and 3-gun competitions definitely seem to fit that bill. 

Hound, yes, the Liberals want to take our guns, and yes, they want all of us subjects to rely on the Government for everything.  But they know there will be a struggle, and THAT is why they started with the type that are generally not used in crimes and of which there are ONLY what – 20 – 25 million of.
