Just off the phone with Mayor Young and since I left the message and email yesterday she has contacted the Chamber and the Alex City Recreation Department and nobody knew anything about the Alabama BASS Trail. Also she has contacted Alabama Tourism Department in Montgomery and now has the name and cell phone number of the person in charge of the Alabama BASS Trail, I provided to her. As I stated in my previous post this indvidual from the Alabama BASS Trail was more than willing to travel to Alex City to meet with local officials, tour the lake and surrounding infrastructure, etc.
Mayor Young stated she would follow up with my contact, the Department of Tourism and others to try to schedule a meeting in Alex City to have Lake Martin considered for the BASS Trail. Furthermore, she stated she would keep me in the loop as any progress is made. So as I receive any updates I will post them to the forum.
Just an FYI, the Alabama BASS Trail does not guarantee any tournaments, what it does is their website lists the current fishing conditions, hotel accommodation (make reservations online), restaurants, and a map of the lake with fish habitats, ramps, marinas, along with other local information. The Alabama BASS Trail is more about recreational fishing than tournaments, but the Trail does have a quasi relationship with BASS which in the long-term could be beneficial to the local economy.
