Moldy, my guess is that your lake home is in a relatively small slough, maybe a bit shallow, and what you describe absolutely happens around the lake.  Could be faulty septic tanks nearby, a neighbor applying too much fertilizer on his lawn, a large flock of Canada Geese.......

What I have a problem with is your claim that Lake Martin is getting worse when the opposite is true.  You may have a localized problem, but please don't assign it to the entire lake.
