UH… excuse me… A blow to U.S. authority all over the world?  By what authority must the U.S. insert itself into a civil war where facilitating the victory of either (any) party or faction is a no-win situation for the interests of the United States? Who appointed the United States as the world authority?

Our prestige is already discounted and out reputation disparaged by capricious actions in the Islamic world (note the two words “capricious” and “Islamic”). Islam is a violent, untrustworthy, and unforgiving culture. U.S. meddling in Islamic affairs does not ever end well for the U.S. (with the exception being Bosnia where we were NOT in charge of the action, but were participants in a coalition action).

Neither the “world” nor our own informed citizens are confident in the status of our nation among nations as degraded by the fickle and inconsistent statements and policies of our Pretender-in-Chief and his Secretaries of state, past and present. No one, not even they themselves, know what they are going to do next. So, to execute brutish authority as a matter of (re)establishing authority is most likely to have the opposite effect. If the world is unhappy with the state of affairs in Syria, let the world collectively take the Bosnian approach. If Allah is unhappy with the state of affairs in Syria… Inshallah.

The United States has neither authority nor omnipotence… regardless of the blathering from the Whitehouse or the Secretary of State.
