N = 131,000,000 and n = 1111
The House of Representatives has 435 seats apportioned to the states by population. Montana and Wyoming each have 1 seat… ( 0.2% of the representation for each ).
If you are representative sampling the nation, you would be basing the political bent of, say, Montana on 22 persons. But, you would represent California ( 53 seats = 12% ) by 135 persons.
The electoral College is 408 votes apportioned to the states. Montana and Wyoming each have 3 electoral votes… ( 0.3% of the national representation for each ).
If you are representative sampling the nation, you would be basing the political bent of, say, Montana on 33 persons. But, you would represent California ( 55 electoral votes = 13% ) by 150 persons.
You can see how the results get skewed. The larger more liberal states dominate the electoral college whereas the less dense, but more conservative/independent, states must vote as a block… or get rolled under.
Regardless of the outcome of the electoral vote, The Constitution was designed to protect the rights of the political, racial, cultural minority… whatever. BUT WAIT! The Constitution has, by now, been warped and discounted so much that it fails to protect MINORITIES of any ilk.
So… the entitled masses can vote themselves benefits and privileges at the expense of the producers. Herein lies the failure of our nation… by the numbers.
