DEM REP Steve Cohen used a desperate tactic... because he comes to the debate unarmed with facts and details... pleading to disallow debate on the floor. In this case, his angst over having to publically vote on the unpopular ObamaCare has resulted in his zeal to use an inappropriate metaphor. When a debater turns to personal invective, it’s a sure sign that he is losing the argument.
Civil discourse is normally between (among) intellectual equals over the pros, cons, and consequences of an action. When one side comes armed with facts, details, and precedence and the other comes armed only with their feelings an 30 second sound bites… well, you know how that goes.
The debate about OBamaCare centers about the following constitutional issues:
Article the twelfth [Amendment X] The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
Section. 8. The Congress shall have Power. To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;
[and… this is the “commerce clause”] To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes;
