Apples and oranges.  The caravan was hoping to gain access through an existing portal by showing up in sheer numbers, overwhelming the system.  That was what, 1500 people?

The wall is intended to make it much harder for the existing steady flow of thousands  illegal immigrants who just walk across a border that has no physical barrier whatsoever. 

Trump took the correct action to dissuade the caravan from carrying out it ill-advised mission and his wall is the correct mlove to make it much harder for the individuals and small groups of "invaders" to simply walk across the border in remote areasunimpeded.
