Do you know why those business get pushed away from Alex City? I assume you do (competition, and the threat of "witholding" certain benefits the City receives from some landowners outside the City limits).
Bass Pro is the most glaring and obvious example, along with the whole Lowes buyback fiasco. When Home Depot opened, I knew the tide was turning, and the people here were beginning to get fed up (they tried to stop that too, but the seller of the property refused to renig on his commitment to Home Depot, even when offered a larger sum of money NOT to sell).
It will change eventually, but Alex City will suffer greatly before it does. That is what I'm talking about when I say Russell Lands must destroy what Russell Corp created in order to achieve their goal.
When Mr. Gwaltney left, the slide began. I also liked Mr. Howell, and thought he did a good job. But it wasn't long after that the total demise was set in place.
I can only imagine how your parents and family must feel. While I worked with them on a cursory level, I never worked "for" either Russell Corp or Russell Lands. And you are right in that what happened at Russell Corp is well in motion at Russell Lands. This economic landslide will only make it quicker and worse :(
