I don't think they are paid to suspend their campaigns. I don't know about Bento - he dropped out so early. But I have a feeling that Koulchar and Buttigieg looked at their chances and realized it was hopeless. They are in a stronger position to leverage their supporters to Biden to get something in return. I don't think either of them want to see Sanders win the nomination either because they don't like him (understand that most people who know him, don't like him) or because they don't think he can beat Trump. Buttigieg is young enough to just be satisified with the experience as a start to his bigger political career, and Amy would probably like to be offered the VP. Let's face it, Biden (and Sander for that matter) are not going to be able to run more than once. And if Joe would kick the bucket while in office, the U.S. would have their first woman President.
It's expensive to stay in the race and if your financial base dwindles the best thing to do is fold camp and join someone else's team.
