I am gaining a lot of respect for our new SECDEF. Secretary Gates said he would take the appropriate action. Whether appropriate or not, I can not say but he did more than just fire a 2 Star who had only been in his position for 5 months.

The President said today he will form a Study. Studies are no more than a political kiss off. Meanwhile he will continue not to direct action to provide the resources needed. My uneducated opinion and belief is he will continue to rob from numerous National Programs to resource Iraq.

The problem runs much deeper than just Walter Reed in my way of understanding it. There is a lot of lip service of praising our brave soldiers and sailors, but then it all ends. The real shame is how we treat our service people. The VA is in shambles and has been for years. From Walter Reed where some may temporarily stay, they will be turned over to this under resourced element of Government. The current President has never - never - never taken any action to repair this broken program. We as Americans have never insisted upon it either. Shame on us, but hey lets shake a soldier's hand in an airport. Please do so, but lets not feel like this is where our obligaion ends

The only thing I would ask our President to do is take charge and not be led by others. General {Barb Wire) Kingston just passed away in the last few days. This man went where he wanted to go and told his staff to take him there. He did not ask his staff to tell him where to go. He was my boss when I was a commander of a unit in the 1st Infantry Division. He later developed the very secrative Delta Force. This was not a man I liked but a man I respected. President Bush seems to want to go where there is a friendly audience and a picture from rose colored glasses. He has shown a lot of attention to the military since there he can visit on a military facility and not receive any essence of controversy or questions of his leadership.

Why did it take the Washington Post to discover the grievous way our people are being treated? There is a much bigger horror story in the VA.

Yes, I understand the depth of respect and reverence many in the deep South feel for President Bush. I suspect much of it surpasses the princile of separation fo Church and State. You are right, he is our current leader.

I am concerned. I will, as I have said in the past, allow history to tell us the nature of his character and ability as the Leader of this Country. I expect a better perspective will be coming within our life times.

Again thank you for responding, I have gained a lot of respect for you since you did so. We do not have to agree, but it is best we attempt to learn from one another.
