Celebrities pay off gold diggers and even stalkers all the time. It is easier to pay them than fight them. Their are instances where someone happens to be in the same place at the same time as a celebrity then takes advantage of the situation to blackmail rich and powerful people. They contact the representatives of said person and claim to have slept with them. A they need to do is prove they were in the same hotel or resort. Then claim a sexual liason. If said target can't prove absolutely it didn't happen, then it is easier to pay than fight the allegations and suffer the negative press, not to mention expensive legal battle.
