I think that there may be a couple of things that both conservatives and liberals can agree on... we generally don't like the direction that the US is going in. We don't like 'politics as usual', gridlocked decision makers, and the sorry lack of vision, intellect & statesmanship among our political class.
To me, Donald Trump is a cautionary tale. He pretty much embodies the worst of us, all those least admirable characteristics of American politics lumped together. He may be the anti-politician, but he is also the embodiment of the ugly American. I agree he won't be the GOP nominee, but the fact that he is polling so well should make us really worry about ourselves.
You have to wonder if the consequences of unlimited campaign funding (AKA Citizen's United & the proliferation of huge PACs) simply means that any super-rich wacko could one day buy their way into the White House. It's like someone posted a help-wanted flyer for the job of most powerful leader in the world, with the tag line "No experience necessary".
