I think your last sentence is the key point. In their non-denial denial they said he wasn't a "target" of NSA spying. That is a far cry from they are not reading his emails. That's the thing with what the NSA and other agencies do, they are "targeting" someone and capture all the emails from US citizens that interact with their target. As I said, I haven't seen the evidence but Carlson claims his anonymous source told him about the content of his private emails that he could not have known unless they were accessing them.
I suspect that Carlson's intent was to put them on notice that when or if his emails are selectively leaked that they will be held responsible.....as if that would ever matter. That alone may be enough to get them to abandon this little political project. If it's all true, then this source is a true patriot. If not, Carlson will have lots of egg on his face. Not sure we will ever know.
