Well, as you well know, the NRA leadership has been in turmoil for the last couple of years.  What the Left fails to see is that it is their own fault that the NRA takes a hard, non-negotional stance. The NRA knows that whatever it agrees to, it will never be enough for the gun-banning left.  I understand in the past the NRA has tried to negotiate and found this out the hard way.  I think a lot of gun owners are far more reasonable than the Left thinks, but they just don't want to get on the slippery slope.  Guns and hunting are part of the hertiage of our country.

I saw some fool psychiatrist on the news who is the head of the Psychiatric Association and didn't want to blame mental illness for the mass shootings.  I can semi-understand his point in that they do not want to leave the impression that everyone with mental illenss is a danger; and that they don't want to discourage people from seeking treatment.  But to say that mental illness is not any factor just isn't true.  There are psychopaths that want to kill people; there are depressed people that want to die by police shooting, and as we saw in the movie theatre shooting, there are schizophrenics that lose their grasp on reality.  You can't paint all mentally ill people with the broad brush of potential killers; but I think there has to be something wrong mentally to blame all of your problems and the problems of society on one group or another.  And when you surround yourself with others that think like that, it's not too far a stretch to get into the same kind of group think that has lead to genocides.  

I really hope that this whole thing will cause Trump, not to give up the principles that he is right about, but to perhaps put more thought into how he expresses himself.
