My son asked about it, so I looked up some info on line.  My guess would be that the terrain in the southwest more closely resembles the Middle East than other available options and they are practicing a multifaceted response, should it be needed.  The conspiracy theorists believe Wal Mart might be involved because of some store closings in the area, leaving huge buildings to be converted to command centers.

i am not convinced there is anything for us in Alabama to worry about - at least not yet as Texas "has our back"  for now.  As long as the Texas government is concerned we should check with them occasionally to see if there is movement with their level of concern.

BTW, my source was a Washington Post article.  The Post is left leaning so the fact they covered it at all should be noted.
