Homophobia: the irrational fear of Homosexuals based on
myths & prejudice.
if
God is opposed to Homosexuality, i missed that part in Sunday School
class. i don’t recall Jesus saying
anything about it. Also, there is
nothing in the 10 Commandments that i can see …..except the “love thy neighbor”
part which is roundly circumvented in many ways by Christians since Moses
pronounced them. Beyond that point, i’d
object on the grounds that Christianity is not everyone’s chosen path, why
should someone be forced to follow a version of religion they don’t accept?
As
far as “they don’t create children, they recruit” sentiments go, i really think
this is a prime example of that innate irrational fear that permeates
Homophobic people and probably is the fundamental reason why homosexuality is
treated with such hysterical condemnation.
Think about it, could someone
really talk you into completely changing who you are sexually attracted to? if you are straight, can you seriously
envision someone talking you into gay sex?
i doubt it.
if
you are deeply concerned about the ability of Homosexuals to “recruit”, then we’d
also have to assume that someone fearing this has a bit of doubt about their own
sexual orientation… enough of a doubt to believe their ‘choice’ could be undone
by the seductive influence of gays looking for new conquests. Balderdash. Sexuality is determined by our biology, not
by logic & reason. What constitutes
a sexually attractive object is written into our physical chemistry from the
ground up, and can’t be altered any more than the true color of your hair or
skin. People who are born with the
tendency to be attracted to same-sex relationships are no more warped than
people who are asexual in the sense that they have no sex drive at all.
Regarding
the politics of all this, i say again:
politics has nothing to do with being homosexual, nor does homosexuality
have anything to do with politics.
Anybody remember J Edgar Hoover?
What about Ronald Reagan’s son, or Dick Cheney’s daughter? it's humorous to think of all gays being lumped together as leftist radicals when there has been a group called Log Cabin Republicans for many, many years.
if
2-3% of the populace is gay (who the heck knows what the true number is)… then
2-3% of your relatives, co-workers, neighbors, priests & churchmen are too…… This issue is going down the same path as racial discrimination went in the 60's, when concerns about the disintegration of the (white) family and damage to the social order were seen as horrible consequences of ending the laws that dictated how people could conduct their lives. it was nonsense then, it's nonsense now.
