Have a 22', 2-toon pontoon. Currently have a 90hp outboard. Am considering a 4-stoke as a replacement. The pontoon is in very good condition, thought 6 years old.

I have heard about problems 4-strokes, due to their weight, have been causing with transoms on older pontoons. A friend has an older pontoon than mine, installed a 90hp Honda 4-stroke, and has had to have his transoms re-welded. It is now cracked again. He does not drive his boat hard.

Wondered if anyone has experienced such problems? Would you replace my motor with a 90? Or might I even inch higher in hp?
