And, trust me, I know how much Pharmaceutical Companies develop their R & D budgets.  Your characterization of them relying to any degree on fed gov't research and then piggybacking off of that with their own R&D is just flat out incorrect.  They recruit the best minds, and it is an intense recruitment, offer them the best labs and equipment and ancillary staff, and try like h>>LL to keep them from jumping ship to other pharma companies.  The Fed Gov't does more to get in their way than it does with any assistance.....
