Good luck with Generac as you will still need to have a fuel source and without natural gas service it is a true pain. If your backup generator burns gas you'll need a lot on hand to keep it going. I wonder if they can run on propane and you can get a large residential tank installed?
I have a dual fuel portable generator but it will burn a grill size tank of propane or a tank full of gasoline in short order. I've been considering getting a residential propane tank installed at my house but they are pretty expensive. Also, you need to spend around $1K to set up your electrical system to run on the backup generator, otherwise it is stringing extension cords all over the place which is a pain and very inefficient way to move electricity. No easy solution.
