I have been toying with the idea of switching to composite decking for the dock for a few years now, but I have heard how hot it can get compared to wood decking.  Our dog likes to hang out on the dock while we are down by the water and I would have some concerns about that.  And the cost factor, of course, though it probably evens out eventually due to less maintenance and replacement every 6-8 years.

Also, I have used a Sherwin-Williams clear deck sealer/stain over the years and have had pretty good luck with it.
