I retired from the company I worked for in DC at the end of November. When they wanted me to come back in February/March of this year as an independent consultant I was told my clearance was still active. When I questioned it they said a clearance is held open for two years after the person leaves the work force. Makes sense, as generally a person doesn't become a risk just because they retire and as Hound says reinvestigations are expensive. But apparently the two year limit is for us paeans, with the Brennan's of the nation retaining the clearance forever. Looks like DJT may change that dynamic.
