The gunman who shot and killed a student Tuesday at an Oregon high school has been identified as a 15-year-old freshman at the school, police said. The shooter, Jared Michael Padgett, rode the school bus to Reynolds High School in Troutdale, Ore., on Tuesday morning, police said. He went into a locker room and shot and killed Emilio Hoffman, 14, a freshman at the school, according to authorities.

 The shooter was carrying an AR-15 rifle, a semiautomatic handgun, a large knife and nine loaded magazines capable of holding hundreds of bullets, Anderson said. In addition, he was wearing a vest used to carry ammunition and other items, as well as a helmet with a camouflage design.

The guns that Padgett was carrying were all taken from his family’s home, Anderson said. “The weapons had been secured, but he defeated the security measures,” Anderson said. Anderson did not disclose any possible motivation for the shooting.
