Referring to Newt Gingrich’s comments that the Muslim Brotherhood is “a mortal enemy of our civilization,” MSNBC’s Chris Matthews Tuesday basically said it takes one to know one. The host of the liberal network’s “Hardball” also went after former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, saying, “She talks like a cuckoo clock.”

In an interview broadcast Monday on CNN, Gingrich criticized reported Obama administration plans to reconsider a relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood: “The Muslim Brotherhood is a mortal enemy of our civilization, they say so openly, their slogan says so openly, their way is Jihad, their method is death,” Gingrich said.
Matthews said Gingrich’s remark was another indication of the “crazy talk radio crowd’s” ideas about Egypt’s popular revolt. “I think if you look closely at Newt Gingrich, you see a mortal enemy to our civilization,” he said.
In his attack on Palin, Matthews played a video clip in which she suggested that President Barack Obama should be more forthcoming with the American people on U.S. policy concerning the Egyptian turmoil.
“It’s a difficult situation. This is that 3 a.m. White House phone call, and it seems for many of us trying to get that information from our leader in the White House — it seems that that call went right to the answering machine,” Palin said in a Christian Broadcasting Network interview released Sunday.
Matthews retorted: “She talks like a cuckoo clock. In fact, I think when she gets that Sarah Palin named patented, that’s what she should sell — cuckoo clocks with her coming out every hour or half hour.”
