I think the thing I miss most about our trips to Italy is the food. Unless you are in Naples and south, Sicily, or Sardinia you just don't get the heavy tomato "gravy" that is so often passed off as Italian food in the US. And the pizza is definitely thin crust, baked in a wood fired oven, singed around the outside and gummy in the middle. Definitely need a knife and fork because they don't cut it for you and even after you cut it into slices it is too limp to pick up....but sooo good. Our favorite was the Diavola, made with spicy salami and worthy of its name. Danm, gotta stop this, getting hungry just typing about it.
Seriously, if this covid crap subsides and anyone makes it to Rome, eat at La Taverna Dei Fori Imperiale (just around the corner from the Coliseum) and pay special attention to their specials because they always are always very special. Family run and very friendly. Reservations are strongly recommended because it is not a big place and is very popular. They are closed on Tuesday.
