I agree that it was confusing, because the original post stated that June was free "quote' month.  To me, a "quote" is the same as a bid or an estimate, but a far cry from a "design consultation" which I could see would justify a seperate fee.  Having built 2 houses on the lake since 2010 I have dealt with many contractors and NONE have ever said that they would charge me a fee just for the privlege of allowing them to submit a bid; albeit most of the projects did not neccesitate an on-site visit.  That is just part of doing business as a contractor IMHO; but, if they truly are superior to everyone else, then by all means charge whatever you feel the market will bear.  We are a free market society, after all, so the market will ultimately decide if this is a wise business decision, or not.
