My wife is a Master Gardener and was asked to plant various varieties in our yard for research. They were planted in a sandy soil in Florida. The one I liked best was called black bamboo. After a few years, all of it was removed as it did not fit the landscape.
I suggest you contact the Extension Service and they should be able to assist you with which bamboo would best fit your need.
