Reference the 1941 low lake levels. It is my understanding that the primary low lake level cause in the early 1940s was World War II ! The general shortage of energy sources , coal ,oil, and transportation led to extremely heavy use of hydro power throughout the US. As a result, many impoundments were drawn down to support electical needs. Be interesting to see if Alabama Power has any info on that in their Corp. history files.
