and how stupid Al Gore and the Democrats were for spending all their time and effort on Palm Beach, Broward and Dade counties. When the recount was stopped in its tracks by a 5 to 4 decision of the Supreme Court, Gore lost by less than 600 votes out of 6 million cast. Why were the Gore people so studid that they ignored the fraud committed by the Republican election officials in Duval county? There were more than 20,000 new first time mostly minority voters in Duval and over 2200 of them were so concerned about making their vote crystal clear in the presidential race (in each race in some cases) that they not only blacked in the circle in front of the presidential candidate but also at the bottom in the ''write in'' space blacked in the circle and wrote in the name of the same candidate. All those ballots when fed into the vote scanner by the voter the counter recorded that vote as a rejected ''double'' vote. The voter had no intention of voting twice but in trying to be safe he or she ended up being ''cheated'', intentionally or unintentionally, of having their vote counted. The FL election code then and now decreed that ''if the intent of the voter is obvious the vote shall be counted''. I have no way of knowing, but think it is a safe assumption that a large majority of those uncounted votes should have gone to Al Gore. If these ballots had been hand counted in a recount they would have been recorded for either Al Gore or George Bush and it is very likely Gore would have won Florida by a few hundred votes and American history would have been changed!
