I respect your apprehensiveness… as should ALL concealed carry permit holders. And I would not burden you with it. In Alabama… in public… you are seldom in the absence of CC. Yet, you are able to calmly go out in public. That is as it should be.
I believe it should be a crime to even brandish a weapon in public except when coming under threat. I do not like open carry... it invites trouble.
Unfortunately, I know a couple of concealed carry holders who are capable of making your case (“cowboys”). A useful statistic for you to know is that the crime among CC holders is half the crime rate of law enforcement officers. Additionally, a concealed carry permit makes criminal behavior all the more aggravated… you carry a concealed weapon, you agree to a higher standard… AND more intense prosecution if it involves your weapon. If you shoot someone you WILL BE sued... even if you do so within the law.
A concealed carry holder who brandishes and/or discharges his firearm while enraged or intoxicated needs some serious time in the slammer.
