The definition of revenue is interesting. For 2013, AMEX shows total revenue of $32.9B including $18B of discount and card fee revenue. They earned $5B for the year. The $140B must be total monies collected for charges to the card and not really revenue. It is the loss of the discount and card fee that matters.
