Microsoft is the elephant on the back of home computer users. This is especially a problem if you are old enough to be retired. Let me give you an example:

Error message: “There is no email program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel.”

Okay. Google it. NONE of the solutions given on the internet will resolve the problem. Why? Because the error message is ambiguous! “…to perform the requested action…” YOU don’t know which program is trying to use your email program and Microsoft is not going to help you with that!

We are all sheep. Our master is Microsoft. Microsoft is the wolf… and there is no sheep dog. WE ALL BOUGHT INTO THIS. We can’t turn back. There is no alternative. Microsoft IS Big Brother… and we are but chaff. Microsoft does all the thinking for us. Shut up!

I once solved survey calculations in the field using a slide rule (no batteries included). I closed and balanced surveys using a handheld calculator and a ledger. I drew the surveys on paper by hand. When I was wrong, I knew it… and I knew why.

I miss those days when I had to think for myself. I miss those days when my math skills were my only resort. I miss those days when my work was confirmed by order-of-magnitude nomographs. I miss using Hudson… and Marks… and Freeze/Cherry.

Now, Microsoft has us by the huevos.

We… my friends, are no longer free. You are no longer you and I am no longer me. AND… the last chapter is entitled “Artificial Intelligence.” YOUR grandchildren will be minions of the state and Microsoft. They have been duly educated to comply.

And if they don’t comply, they will be censured.

In the wise words of Pogo, “We have met the enemy, and he is us.”

We threw away God. We have ceded morality. We discounted our Constitution. We have abdicated our obligation to think for ourselves.

WE have pooped the bed of our scion. Our Fathers “The Greatest Generation”, left us the prize culture of the world. And we squandered it.
