that there is no indication that McCain would have been able to follow through on his promises either.

Time will tell with Obama. He's off to a good start, but we won't know how successful he will be for 2-3 years.
I hope there are young Republicans out there that will take up the mantle of the party. Hopefully they will learn from the mistakes of their elders. It's not that the Republican party is bad; it's just that they've moved too far to the right. It's time for some new blood. I still think that if John McCain was the best they had to offer, then they need to cultivate their younger members.
