Ok. I never supported us going into Iraq. I never believed that Iraq posed a threat and unfortunately, I know some of the "architects" of the war. Doug Feith was my bosses boss and Paul Wolfowitz was his boss. I don't have a high opinion of either of those people. I've read a fair amount of intelligence in the business I was in, and I can tell you, you can read most of it any way you want by picking and choosing. Have you read "the War Within" by Bob Woodward? I think it is pretty objective about how things have gone down in Iraq. Lots of behind the scenes movers and shakers. No, I don't want us to "lose" in Iraq, but I don't think Iraq is ours to win or lose. Al Queda brought the fight to Iraq because we were there. We should have committed our assets to Afghanistan. I don' think the majority of Americans want us to continue to spend money and lives in Iraq. Don't forget, Iraq is one of the issues that have cost the Republicans dearly with the majority of Americans. I want someone to go after the bad guys in the Kyber Pass between Afghanistan and Pakistan, and clean out the terrorist training camps in Dafur and other places in Sudan. We can't do that as long as we're tied down in Iraq.
The other thing I don't like about McCain is his age. I think he is too old. Now I know you are going to tell me about his "experience" -- I think the job of President should belong to a younger man with vision. I'm less impressed with an "experienced" Washington insider. I think as a country, we need someone to inspire and lead us. Too much experience can be baggage. Sometimes when you have too much experience, you are resistent to innovation. McCain's temper is legendary. And he says he is unwilling to talk to the leaders of North Korea and Iran and others. Where can that possibly get us? About the same place as Bush's "Axis of Evil" got us.... No wonder they started building nuclear weapons.
Have said that, I'm not thrilled with Obama either. But, I'm willing to take a risk on his vision and that he will surround himself with people that can make something happen. I'm not worried about tax increases -- heck, if we are in such a financial crisis and both sides of the aisle can't agree on a plan, I'm not worried that there will be any snap decisions on tax increases and increasing the size of govt. This Congress has pretty much demonstrated they can't get out of their own way on either side of the aisle.
Geez, maybe I'm one of the angry white men..
