Sorry, I was a defense person not a State Department weenie. I mean, what do you do when Putin has been isolating himself for the past 2 years, working his little resentments into a full scale rage, with no one except his syncophants and yes-men to talk him down? He saw our messy, and disasterous departure from Afghanistan, saw the rioting in the streets and no doubt figured that Biden would be too busy putting out fires from his disasters to notice that Putin was marching into Ukraine.
I wasn't privy to all the intel, I wasn't privy to the discussions or the negotiations, but I do recall Biden saying a minor incursion might be okay (which the WH quickly walked back). If I were still in the Pentagon, I would have been putting together the security assistance package, putting out diversion instructions to our military and I would have been working any disclosure issues that were coming up. I'm sure he got a lot of advice from his operational commanders and the joint chiefs, as well as his national security team in the EOB, although it seems that even the experts don't seem to know what to expect from Putin at this point. Even the vaulted LTC, ex-NSC "expert" on Ukaine, hasn't offered anything worth listening to. And for his actions, we were going to crown him and fire Trump.
You still haven't said what you think should have been done or even should be done now. I don't have a freakin clue.
