An African American young black woman being interviewed in Charlottesville said that is offensive having Thomas Jefferson and Monticello looking down on them. In fact, she said "The Master looking down on us". So shall we tear down Monticello too? There is already talk that Mount Rushmore should be taken down. And what about the Jefferson Memorial in Washington? And maybe tear down the White House, since it was built with slave labor.
The problem is that you can tear down the monuments, you can erase all traces of the civil war, but you still can't touch people's hearts and minds. Liberals are allowing BLM to incite White Guilt, in order to get what they want. Liberals want to rewrite history. Will they call to cease civil War re-enactments and disband the Daughters of the Confederacy?
I am not against Black people by any stretch of the imagination. I think they are caught up in echo chamber being told what they should think. Just like the very Alt right - Neo Nazi, White Supremists, and KKK have found each other via the internet and have figured out a way to be heard. I don't agree with them either. All of it is repugnant to me. But if I say that I don't think the statues should come down, I'm automatically labeled sympahtizing with the alt right - I am a racist, I don't care about black people, etc. I do care, but there is a nagging thought in my brain that says here we go again catering to a vocal minority. Why don't we just let individual communites decide whether to keep a statue up or take it down.
