You are exactly right. AR's that haven't been modified are no different than a hunting rifle. And that is one of the difficulties in banning them, because you have to figure out a way to describe them that doesn't involve banning all semi-automatics. Now, I understand that there is information on the internet on how to make it fully automatic, which is, of course, illegal. But I am led to believe there are kits out there. I think a lot of people get confused and excited beause the ARs look like their military counterpart. My opinion is that this is mostly a marketing ploy that appeals to a certain segment of the gun market. Get ready for the prices to go up, because that is what happens every time there is talk about gun control and banning ARs. If they want to ban something, let them ban those magazines that hold 100-150 bullets like the one perpetrator carried. It would be a feel good action.
