Here’s my world view.  I grew up around here, and I can tell you that Right Wing radicals have been dangerous, destructive and sometimes downright murderous in this part of the world.   That part of our culture has held back economic development in this region for many generations now, but unless you lived thru it yourself… you wouldn’t appreciate the gravity of this problem.     It just hasn’t been that long since the locals were hanging people who were opposed to their world view.    I readily admit to that listening to more of that sort of hate-mongering invective makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck as I wonder where the Conservative tide will take us next.

You take an easy & self-confident position now, but it hasn’t been that long since Catholics were persecuted around here, too.     Priests and Nuns were threatened & intimidated for their work in community organization,  congregations condemned as idolators and papists.    And it wasn’t until 1963 that anyone would even consider voting for a Catholic for President (A Democrat!).    Consider this:  In times past, you could have been the object of considerable right wing animosity yourself…. And if you woke up to find a cross burning in your yard, you would be seriously hoping to find a neighbor who expoused inclusiveness and tolerance.
