Looks like the lake is up to last years new winter level again this year, wonder if APCO is going to keep to the new curve and bring the lake up early again as a new normal ?

from LMLPA facebook.

ATTENTION - WINTER WATER LEVEL IS GOING TO RISE TO 462 STARTING IMMEDIATELY:

Well, as some of you may have already heard, Ala Power announced today that they have been granted a temporary variance to raise the winter pool to 462 until it reaches the normal curve in early April at which point it should continue to rise to summer pool level.
As LMLPA has been petitioning for this higher winter level at the request of many of our members for 20+ years, we would like to take credit for the change, however that is not the case. We only have Mother Nature to thank or blame according to your particular feelings on the change. We are already finding our state in a moderate drought as we have come through the historically rainy season with very little rain. Therefore, the concern was that the lake would not be able to fill to summer pool if the rise/storage did not begin early.

As I have read through some of the Facebook comments, there are a few I would like to address:
1. This that this happens every year - I have lived here since '01 and this is only the 2nd time I have seen it (2017 & now). I get the most complaints if the water starts dropping at the end of the season generally due to insufficient rain
2. Water is dropped so that docks, seawalls, etc can be repaired. Again, not the case. We are a flood control lake, meaning the drop is to allow it to be a storage lake for winter/spring flooding. Some of the other lakes on the Coosa are "run of the river" lakes which means what comes in, goes out. Lay is an example of this and you will see very little if any water level change from season to season and yet they somehow maintain docks, etc.
That is one of the beauties of the Coosa Basin. There are 6 plus lakes on the Coosa and they are each different yet wonderful. There are many choices such as size, depth, good or better fishing, more or less populated, storage vs run of the river, etc.
We too were planning on some minor repairs (tightening loose boards, etc) this winter. Those that we can repair ourselves will be jump on first thing in the morning as it is going to be a beautiful day. Many of our local dock builders got this information at the boat show earlier today (or yesterday now) and if they have projects hopefully they will be contacting customers to plan for the rise in water level.

I'll also be posting the newest Alabama Drought map so you can see where we are and maybe see the direction this is predicted to go to help us better understand.
