Four good sources to learn about Alabama Power are as follows.

1. www.alabamapower.com

This is a web site that has a "barrrel of information" such as (1) who the CEO is; (2) Board of Directors; and (3) The Southern Company., Alabama Power's parent company. Alabama Power is one of the several US utilities operated by the Southern Company with the others being Mississippi Power, Georgia Power, and Gulf Power.

2. www. blackwarriorriver.org

This is a well maintained web site for an environmental group headquartered in Birmingham. Read through the several sections of this web site and you will get a feel for the behaviors of Alabama Power. You might come away with a feeling that Alabama Power's first priority is net income and corporate leaders will not hesitate to make necessary manuvers to achieve corporate objectives.

3. www. decaturdaily.com

This newspaper has publishsed two different articles (2006 and 2007) on the situation at Smith Lake and damages that are being seen as a result of the massive fluctuations in water level by Alabama Power. For details, go to this web site, click on "slide show", and then view the 14 photographs taken by a reporter showing the various shorelines at Smith Lake.

4. www.slisa.org

This is the web site for the group that represents many of the property owners on Smith Lake. SLISA is also heading the efforts to debate the relicensing process with FERC regarding Alabama Power's application for relicensing for the next 35 to 50 years. Note that this agency recently approved a one year permit which is highly unusual. This would appear to me that FERC has concerns about the behaviors of Alabama Power regarding the management of Smith Lake. It's not about profits only!
