Had a propane generation installed when we built the house and use propane to cook with. Buried tank. We've used our generator a lot of times, since it seems like everytime it rains or storms the power goes off. Longest time running the generator was 3 days. We had the propane tank filled when it was installed, and they top it off every other year or so, so not much propane gets used I don't know the size of the tank that was installed.
The bigger issue of the generator is having it serviced on a regular basis, or if it runs for a long period of time - I believe that the service guy told me, it needs to be serviced every 60 hours of run time. We've had to replace it's battery twice in 13 years.
I know it was $5000 for the generator itself, when we bought it and to fill the tank completely the first time was about $1200. But living out here, I am so glad we made the investment.
