View print version Lake Martin Boat Ramps Closed
April 28, 2011
In the aftermath of the extreme tornado damage, Alabama Conservation and Natural Resources Commissioner N. Gunter Guy Jr. has closed all ADCNR boat ramps on Lake Martin until further notice. Commissioner Guy has also directed that boaters stay off Lake Martin so as not to hamper emergency operations. “The large amount of debris in the water from the tornadoes has created an extremely hazardous situation on this lake, and we are strongly advising boaters to stay off these waters,” he said. In the interest of public safety, Alabama Power Company has also closed all of its boat ramps on Lake Martin. The public is advised that any non-emergency personnel found to be boating on Lake Martin during the period of emergency operations will be stopped and questioned by law enforcement. The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources promotes wise stewardship, management and enjoyment of Alabama’s natural resources through five divisions: Marine Police, Marine Resources, State Lands, State Parks, and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.
