Ive been on the river once or twice fishing for the past 7 weeks.  The topwater bite is really getting good...especially with the lower flows we are having due to how dry our weather has been.  White poppers have worked great the past few days but be reared to change your colors. Look for days with partly to mostly cloudy skies and lower flow.  I expect the grasshopper bite will be getting good as we get more into summer. Spots, Redeyes, bluegill, and redbreast will be eager to eat anything that looks right.  Expect to catch all 4 species in the same day.

Cast to to submerged logs in slow current for  big spots. Cast to 2-4 foot water with slow to moderate current  with submerged structure for Redeyes and Redbreasts. May also catch spots in the current.  Redeyes are a lot like trout so don't overlook casting to current!

Tight Lines!

Some of those shoals look pretty shallow on Google Earth.  How much dragging do you have to do?

You're correct, Irwin Shoals gets very shallow.  If you stay to the extreme left of the river there is a deeper channel that goes around a few islands (which is also one of the prettiest parts of the river IMHO). Also I use an inflatable raft style drift boat that drafts about an inch of water.
