The setup for cooking the roast is a Dutch Oven. Traditional onions/potatoes/garlic/carrots/ celery/ salt/pepper/beef stock et. et.al..

Pot going into oven at @300 for maybe 3 hours. Pretty much standard??

What is the best Beef Roast for a Pot Roast??  Momma used the least expensive chuck roast she could find and it was supreme.. I have used Chuck ,,not so good. Round,, even worse. Sirloin Tip is the best I have tried, and it was very good, but expensive.

Please, your experience on a really good roast to use and how to justify bringing it to the table??

Mack, Time and temp and seasonings sound about right. I have always used chuck without an issue. Maybe I should venture out into more "exotic" cuts, but chuck is what I was raised on. My Mom used to cook the vegetables separately from the roast so she could make gravy easier. I like using a dutch oven. I can get more carrots and onions in that way.

Chuck roasts in the two pack from Sams.  Good!  In the crock pot from frozen to fork, cooking all day long.

Big bone-in chuck, Brown on both sides & remove.  Use cast iron (or LeCruset pot). Brown rough cut onions, carrots and celery. Add roast back. Pour in half & half beef stock and red wine (no..not sangria :-) ) Season of course with salt/pepper. Add bay leaves, cover and simmer on low or in a 300 degree oven for 2-3 hours. Then remove contents and make gravy, add back the roast, cover for 30 minutes and put on platter. Cover and let get happy then carve and serve with rice, mashed potatoes or wide noodles. Slice or shred roast.  Then slap your momma.

That's the basics. Feel free to innovate.

Best to have a roast with some fat because it helps with moisture. Cheap beef works fine.  If you haven't had good luck with chuck, my guess is you aren't cooking long enough. Ever try a pressure cooker?....cuts the time way down with great results; it even works on Monday through Saturday pot roast.

LNG, went to Sam's today,, looked at the chuck's. Beautiful cuts. Not too much fat. Much nicer than either Winn Dixie or Publix put out in their cases, and about $.75 less per pound. About 2.5 inches thick,,, Gonna try a chuck roast again.. Thanks

Hope it serves you well.  Had some that my daughter in law cooked last Tuesday night and it was great.  Their sic year old picky eater dug right in and wanted seconds.  That is a good sign.

I use a Rump roast(trim any outside fat off)  in the crockpot with a package of Liption Dry Onion soup mix , can of mushroom soup, salt, pepper, and red wine.  Cook 8 hours.  I don't like potatos cooked with the beef but I put onions at the beginning and then add carrots and whole mushrooms for the last 2-3 hours.  I never use a chuck roast because we don't like all of the fat and grease.  I make mashed potatoes so I will have something to put that yummy gravy on!!

Two packs of Sam's Club chuck roasts.  Good!  From freezer to fork in a slow cooker all in one day.
